Broadway's "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" will end its run on May 20, with Nick Jonas in the lead. His role in the play was supposed to wrap up on July 1, but producers have decided to end the show early.
Jonas took over the part of Finch after both Daniel Radcliffe and "Glee" star Darren Criss tried their hand at the role. The revival, which won a 2011 Tony Award, opened in March 2011 with the "Harry Potter" star. After he left, Criss took over the role for a three-week run in January before Jonas joined. "What an amazing experience it's been with @H2SBway! Thx to all my Finch fans, producers and fellow cast. Thanks #Broadway," Jonas tweeted about the news. "Excited about my next adventure - I know 2 guys who are happy I'll be back in the studio to write again! @KevinJonas @JoeJonas #JB2012."
Jonas is referring to the new JoBros album that he and his brothers are currently working on. They also just parted ways with their longtime label, Hollywood Records, marking a whole new chapter for the guys.
According to The New York Times, the show has failed to bring in expected revenues. Last week, it took in only 26 percent of its expected gross with $367,605. However, the show recouped its original $9 million investment in December. As of May 20, the show will have played 30 previews and 473 regular performances.
Earlier this year, Jonas spoke to MTV News about the role and aiming to please both fans of the Jonas Brothers and theater fans.
"It's a different show every night, a different audience every night, and although we're saying the same thing, it's so different with each show, and the audience plays just as much a part into the way the show runs as the actors do. We have to pay attention and keep the pace of the show up," he said. "It's been fun to have a different show every night and to see the fans, not only Jonas fans, but also fans of 'How to Succeed' and theater fans in general."
