Koncz: No Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao this year ? Boxing News
Michael Koncz, adviser and close friend of Manny Pacquiao, has confirmed that a fight between the former WBO welterweight titlist and Floyd Mayweather, the current WBC welterweight titlist, is not possible this year.
Koncz earlier revealed that the Pac-man will fight in December instead of November 10. However, later on, he confirmed that Pacquiao?s December date is not working and so there are chances of the Filipino proud entering the ring on November 10 once again. While neither Koncz nor Bob Arum of Top Rank, promoter for Pacquiao, are sure of the fight?s date, Koncz confirmed that Floyd Mayweather will not be Pacquiao?s opponent.
?We?re willing and able to fight Floyd anytime that he wants, but I don?t believe he is ready. Floyd just got out of jail,? said Koncz in an interview to ESPN.
?(Floyd is) spending time with his family. He?s enjoying his freedom. He has money left over from the last fight after being in jail for two months,? Koncz said. ?I don?t see Floyd going into the ring until next year, but who knows??
A super-bout between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao has kept fans excited for long. However, every year, something or the other happens which brings the fight to a halt. Earlier this year, both fighters were in direct contact with each other yet they could not come to a deal. Therefore, Mayweather went onto fight Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto while Pacquiao went onto fight American unbeaten fighter Timothy Bradley.
?I wish him all the luck in the world and so does Manny, but I don?t see Floyd fighting before us this year,? added Koncz.
?Right now, they?re scheduling it for the MGM Grand, but I?ve had discussions on it with (Top Rank chief executive) Bob (Arum), and it depends on what opponent we pick,? Koncz said regarding Pacquiao?s upcoming bout.
As of now, nothing can be said for sure regarding the Filipino?s fight date. While Arum is insisting for a fight on November 10, Koncz has stated that the Filipino congressman might face issues with the date as from October the local elections are starting and Pacquiao is participating in them.
